A Global Presence Requires a Global Mindset If a business has a great product or service; why would it not share that product or service with the world? Business leaders in the business world of today are feeling the push to go global. There has been a huge increase in the size of the global market over the past 20 years and the only alternative CEO’s have had are to get on board or get left behind (Govindarajan, 1998). A global mindset is an organization or an individual’s ability to openly become well informed about different value systems, differences in norms of behavior, and different assumptions regarding reality (Gupta, 1999). In multiple glo bal mindset definitions researched, the word â€Å"openness† was identified in many different formats. This emphasizes the importance of an organization being receptive to new cultures, different experiences, alternative practices, and most importantly the ability to adapt to change when developing a global mindset. A global mindset is one of the main ingredients in interpreting the dynamic world in which a company operates (Gupta, 1999). It is the ability to scan the world from a broad perspective to identify unexpected trends and opportunities that may be a threat or opportunity to achieve organization objectives (Kedia and Mukherji, 1999). Organizations will need to gear into a worldwide view to build internationally. An organization with global mindset considers every customer regardless of country to be as important as the customers of the home market (Govindarajan, 1998).
